As part of their True Electric Tour of 2025, the Norwegian synth-pop duo Röyksopp delivered a profound and powerful show at Vega, Copenhagen. From the very first bassline and the commanding beats of the kick drum, the audience was swept into a full-blown organic synth feast—like elephants running and dancing across the savannah.

Since their founding in 1998, Röyksopp has established themselves as both an institution and a guiding star in synth-pop. Their trademark: the choice to use analogue synthesizers. This gives their sound a distinct warmth, flavour, and texture reminiscent of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The influence of Kraftwerk is obvious—but soundscape strategies from both Pink Floyd and King Crimson are present as well.

The setlist was impressive—but personally, I missed “Oh, Lover,” one of my favourite Röyksopp tracks. It features an intelligent and beautiful vocal chorus melody performed by Susanne Sundfør, who appears on many of their songs. One of them is “Stay Awhile” from the band’s Profound Mysteries III—by the way, the most frequently performed track on their 2025 setlist so far.

Tonight was a stripped-down, hard-boiled DJ performance. No stage décor, no female lead singers, no eccentric hats or costumes. Full focus on the music. I respect that—but I can’t help wondering if it could have added an intriguing, synesthetic dimension to have some visuals playing on a rear screen? That said, it was still a seductive and body-persuasive feast with Röyksopp this Friday night.
