Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Harris Dickinson, and Joseph Quinn were announced as the new Beatles at CinemaCon 2025. This image shows the original Beatles in New York City, 1964.

In a bold reimagining of the biopic genre, director Sam Mendes has unveiled a groundbreaking cinematic undertaking: four interconnected Beatles films, each spotlighting a different band member’s personal journey. Revealed during Sony’s CinemaCon 2025 presentation, the ambitious project will chronicle the lives of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, and George Harrison from four unique viewpoints—culminating in what Mendes calls a “four-film cinematic event.”

Set for release in April 2028, the films star Paul Mescal (McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Starr), Harris Dickinson (Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (Harrison). All four actors took the stage at CinemaCon to rapturous applause, donning classic black suits and playfully mimicking Liverpool accents—a nod to the Fab Four’s early charisma. They even quoted lyrics from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, reinforcing their commitment to authentically capturing the band’s spirit.

Mendes’ approach marks a dramatic shift from conventional music biopics, opting instead for a structure that reflects the Beatles’ internal diversity. “They were four very different human beings,” he emphasized, framing this as essential to understanding the group’s evolution. Sony’s Tom Rothman described the series as “the first bingeable theatrical experience,” evoking a streaming-style format applied to the cinema space.

This isn’t the first time the Beatles have been the subject of film, but Mendes’ project is uniquely positioned as the only biographical series produced with the full cooperation and rights of all four members’ estates—a move that grants access to both music and personal life stories in unprecedented depth.

The casting of Mescal, Keoghan, Dickinson, and Quinn brings together a new generation of acting talent, each known for emotional depth and range. With filming scheduled to take over a year, the project signals not just a nostalgic tribute, but a major cinematic gamble that could redefine how legacy stories are told on screen.
