This band from Scotland took all aces home. Impressively.
It was a slippery Monday night in Copenhagen, due to melting snow. And it was cold. But once inside the legendary concert hall of Store Vega we all got warm in just a matter of seconds.
The Easiest Way to Stay GDPR-Compliant
Admittedly, I did not know this Scottish band – established way back in 1995 – until Monday night. But my good friend and photographer Uffe Karlsson did. He saw them in Den Grå Hal, Christiania, two years ago – and was impressed. So am I now.

Besides reviewing bunches of concerts, venues and festivals, I am a musician myself. It always annoys me a bit whenever people ask me to compare my songs and band style with other acts.
But we humans tend to have a notorious need to compare. Guess it makes us feel safe. So: For those who do not know Biffy Clyro, here are my five reliefs: Green Day, Offspring, Foo Fighters, System of a Down – and Manic Street Preachers.
However, this is crucially important to underline: Biffy Clyro has their own unique style and sound.

A brilliant mix of hard rock, catchy refrains – and with elements of folklore. For instance two choir girls both playing violins. Add to this a fierce woman on bass, a great drummer, two hardcore guitars – and a tattooed front man with a brilliant voice and extreme stage presence.
The overture (apx: 4:30) was not interesting. Obviously a backing track tape play, too cliché for my taste. Just slow synth themes and violin ostinatoes.

But once the band opened with their first track, the two violin-playing girls at the edge of the stage – Vega just exploded! And as the band moved on they got warm at the speed of light, and delivered a show of two hours in total. They are brilliant – and I surrender, and take a bow in the melting snow.
A last note: The band name Biffy Clyro? Took my immediate interest. Are we talking about an acronym here? Well, look it up – if you are curious enough.
